July 6th – The Mascot Theory

 MascotWith groups like Mumford & Sons, The Avett Brothers, and Dawes setting the tone, the sub-genre of acoustic folk rock made its way to mainstream radio and captured an incredible and very loyal fan base. With the release of their Nashville-recorded album Hand Me Down Miracles and the follow up Esperanto EP, The Mascot Theory is set to be the next band in that category to make a major impact, as they have quickly moved up the popularity ranks of Madison’s music scene with their infectious songwriting and live shows. They balance on an alternative folk influence and pull it together with a rootsy bluegrass blended Americana feel to give something that fits alongside their counterparts, but also has enough freshness to it to give it a unique spin and create their own sound as well, with a sonic backbone of 4-part harmony swells.

 

July 13th – Gabe Burdulis Band

Gabe Burdulis is a young singer/songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. Burdulis was raised in Madison, WI. He is a self taught multi-instrumentalist that grew up playing in bands since the age of 12 and throughout high school where he had a strong blues influence within his playing. cJefko-GabeBurdulis-019Between his blues roots and his love for pop and hip-hop music his style is diverse and holds elements of folk and country in as well.  As a songwriter, Burdulis connects through his lyrics, singing about things that everyone goes through and can relate to. He delivers everything from heart melting acoustic pop tunes to face melting grungy rock songs within the boundaries of a show. His live performances have been called “captivating”. One of Burdulis’ shows is sure to be full of energy while still maintaining an intimate performance.  You will leave any show with a positive state of mind, and a melody stuck in your head.     Burdulis is a two-time winner of the Les Paul Award. Some of his recent awards incudle receiving Male Vocalist and Guitarist of the year for the Madison Area Music Awards (MAMA’s) in 2015.

 

July 20th – Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers

Charismatic singer and guitarist Erin Harpe, along with her band the Delta Swingers, have become favorites around New England, with a growing fan base around the world. Their unique brand of dance music is rooted in vintage 1930’s Mississippi delta blues, then shaken and stirred with other genres like soul, funk, and reggae, evoking a wild southern juke joint where the whiskey and gin are flowing and everybody’s dancing. Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers features Erin on vocals and lead guitar, backed by Jim Countryman on bass, Matt Charles on harmonica and Kendall Divoll on drums. Their critically acclaimed debut album Love Whip Blues (VizzTone) has been very well received, getting 4 stars in DownBeat Magazine, and airplay around the world including SeriusXM’s Bluesville! 

 

 July 27th – Willy Porter & Carmen Nickerson

He and singing partner, Carmen Nickerson, bring their brand of righteous indie-folk for a night of high-test tunes and tons of fun. Willy’s signature finger-picking guitar work and rich songwriting creates a one-of-a-kind musical ride that has energized audiences all over the world from stages shared with icons such as Jethro Tull, Tori Amos, Paul Simon, and Jeff Beck. August 3rd – Megan Bobo & the Lux

Born of mixed MeganBoboLuxstyles, attitudes, and talents, Megan Bobo & The Lux has exploded onto the midwest music scene. Armed with a grooving rhythm section, strong horn section, and an American Idol, this band is unstoppable. The combination of frontwoman Megan Bobo’s bright smile, refreshing charisma, and strong yet sultry voice with the Lux’s soulful and funky beats is known to leave faces melted, hearts broken, and dance floors sweaty. This powerhouse supergroup is not to be missed.

 

 August 10th – Tony Castaneda Latin Jazz Band

The Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Sextet was founded in Madison, WIBand Picture 2007-8 in 1998 and has been entertaining audiences throughout the Midwest with their renditions of classic and original Latin Jazz ever since. Voted Madison’s Favorite Jazz Band fourteen straight years by the “Isthmus Reader’s Poll” (2000-2014), and recipient of three “Madison Area Music Awards” (2005-2007) as Madison’s best Latin Artist and best Latin Album (“Viva el Cardinal” and “Mambo O Muerte”) the Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Sextet continues to impress and entertain audiences wherever they play. The Tony Castañeda Latin Sextet Band has been a favorite at the Isthmus Jazz Festival, Live at Five and other local venues and festivals and has performed and demonstrated Latin music for a number of public schools in an effort to expose more people to latin music. The band’s tight sound has also been honed by over eight years worth of free weekly Sunday night gigs at the Cardinal Bar in Madison, WI.
