July 8th – The Wells Division
The description “folk-rock” puts you in the ballpark, but it is probably an understatement for Madison, WI-based band, The Wells Division. It’s folk-rock with a pulse, heart and soul, grit, and humanity. It starts as a core of singer-songwriter tunes, written and performed by Gary Flesher, Jr, but then layered and supported with tasteful drumming by Kevin Pamulak, and a multitude of textures offered up by Kevin Knapp on keys, and a solid bass line from Scott Aumann. With the complimentary and powerful vocals from Joan Herzing, as well as her contribution on sax and accordion, the directions are limitless. Each member has a distinctly unique musical background, but together the pieces fit just right. The style of songs themselves can seem just as varied, but ultimately they are tied together with not only instrumentation, but with bittersweet vocals, thoughtful lyrics, and the collective themes of what is essentially the yin and yang of life as we know it, and as we don’t.
July 15th – Point Five
(sponsored by Dr. Russell Christian of Family Dental Care)
Point Five, an Americana acoustic band, is one of Southwest Wisconsin’s best kept musical secrets. and on Wednesday, July 15th, they’ll perform at Wednesday Night Live in Mount Horeb. While the secret is coming out (they were highlighted on WPR’s Simply Folk), the band still loves to play local Dodgeville and Mineral Point bars, benefit concerts and local southwestern stages. The band consists of Monica and Aaron Dunn (harmony vocals, rhythm guitar), Paul Biere (banjo, dobro, harmony vocals), Andy Hatch (mandolin) and Carole Spelic (stand up bass, harmony vocals). With impeccable and soothing vocal harmonies from the Dunn partnership and tasteful instrumental breaks from Andy, Paul and Carole, the band moves seamlessly through an array of songs and acoustic styles, including bluegrass, folk, originals, and gospel, with creativity and verve. They truly let the songs and lyrics shine through, leaving the listener with the emotional impact of the song itself. Aaron’s original songs conjure up picturesque scenes of the landscape of Southwest Wisconsin and lately, Point Five has been performing more and more of these heartfelt originals.

July 29th – Joel Paterson & Jim Liban Band
Joel Paterson is one of the most respected guitarists on the Chicago music scene today. The blues/country/rockabilly/jazz guitar wizard has spent the last 10 years touring and recording with acts like Dave ‘Honey Boy’ Edwards, Wanda Jackson, Carl ‘Sonny’ Leyland, Jimmy Sutton’s Four Charms, Deke Dickerson, and his own Joel Paterson’s Blues Roundup and the Modern Sounds. While Paterson can recreate the sound and feel of guitar greats like Django Reinhardt, Tiny Grimes, Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, and Merle Travis, he can also nail the Chicago and delta blues idioms of guitarists like Blind Blake, Robert Nighthawk, Jimmy Rogers, and Freddie King. If that wasn’t enough, this guy can also tear it up on a pedal steel. Plain and simple this cat can play.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based, Jim Liban has been playing blues harp for a long time. He was part of the psychedelic scene in San Francisco and once shared the stage with Hendrix. He has been a major part of the local Wisconsin scene for many years.
August 5th – The Sharrows
The Sharrows music, “farm rock”, references their musical mecca, the rural barn studio where they practice and record. Their grungy folk vibe is driven by a steady bass drum thump accompanied by heavily picked bass lines, and a slashing cello, adding beef to their bluesy saunter. On Facebook
